Chapter 17: Alec
The room containing Alec had two floors. On the top floor were ten people, ten chairs, and ten buttons. Connected to each button was a steel and copper wire that led from the button to the lower floor where young Alec was strapped into an electric chair. Everyone present, including Alec, knew that this was designed to give the criminal a fleeting sense of hope before they sent the soul on its one-way trip to the afterlife.
While Alec thought about his life and prayed to god for some sort of miracle, the top floor was frantic with activity. While a person's life was hanging in the balance, the executioners talked amongst themselves, making bets as to the effects so much electricity would do to a young boy's body.
